What Is Fiberglass Yarn Made Of?
Sep 13, 2025
Fiberglass yarn is primarily made of glass fiber, an inorganic non-metallic material (50-60% silica, 14-25% alumina). It exhibits tensile strength (3000-5000 MPa), high-temperature resistance (long-term operating temperature 550°C), and corrosion resistance (pH tolerance range 1-14). Depending on the process, it can be categorized as either chopped yarn (excellent flexibility) or continuous yarn (strength exceeding 2000 MPa). It is widely used in electrical insulation (with a withstand voltage rating of 10 kV/mm), industrial weaving (rope and netting with a temperature resistance of 400°C), and composite material reinforcement.
